Hey! I’m Joe, a Multi-Discipline Freelance Senior Designer & Design Director focused on Brand Graphics and Visual Communication.
From first ideas to finished product; I span creative strategy, visual communication and design direction for brands big and small. Whether you're a global household name or a social enterprise start-up, I’m here to meet, understand and help the people behind the products that make the brand.
Unafraid to challenge the brief, convention or myself, I find passion in purpose, confidence in curiosity and satisfaction in seeing powerfully simple ideas realised through well-considered and visually striking design.
I learn best through making, constantly evolving my collaboration, design, and delivery process to produce better work and work environments - whilst building client relationships through helping influence the emotional connections between their brand and its audiences.
With a strong strategic and commercial understanding, I thrive on seeing the dots before connecting them, not only to find better ways to solve the problem but new opportunities too. I like to be involved in a project or product early enough to help shape what it becomes - with a focus on experimenting, creating and setting a vision vs. maintaining, I typically prefer to be part of teams doing this type of work.
I really like being part of small, multi-disciplinary teams where talented individuals are given the time, space and autonomy to create their best work through open communication, structured process and effective client shares. It goes without saying, those teams with varied skillsets and perspectives naturally produce more divergent, vibrant responses to briefs. In my experience, this enables the holistic translation of a brand through the collective development of a singular creative vision and ultimately leads to making meaningful work of enduring value.
Passionate about education; I’m proactive in inspiring and mentoring new creative talent by volunteering with school programmes, running projects with universities and promoting accessible, paid internships with meaningful industry experience.
Work is very important to me, but so are family, friends and my mental wellbeing. Over the last few years, I’ve found striking a balance of working hard without burning out doesn’t have to lead to compromise and is often a reflection of good management, effective leadership and respectful relationships. I firmly believe that investing in your passions and aspects of who you are outside of your day-job lets you become a more well-rounded and adaptable designer and try to maintain a life-long practice of creating with curiosity.
Above all, I value being part of a diverse, collaborative studio culture where people from a mix of backgrounds form relationships that are defined by trust and respect for each other’s passions and perspectives over disciplines and titles.
